library 2.0

Well I have read about this new approach to web use, etc etc, and am VERY confused! I can see that the net needs to be interactive and the sharing of information especially in academic circles is great, but the idea of lack of control and the use of data bases that are not subscribed to is a bit beyond my comprehension. Bu what ho, I am of the older generation and not that hip!

del.icio.us

This site is a bit of a disappointment! I have joined but am blowed if I can find how to add bookmarked sites! NOT USER FRIENDLY.

iGoogle

iGoogle is great! I love the photos available and the games. It has links to lots of interesting sites.

Google books

Wow, what a site. I should have known about it when I was teaching children's lit!! I have looked up "The Polar Express and found teaching activities relating to this, one of my all time favorite stories. What a find! Here are the bells on the reindeers' harness.

Google docs and maps

I love using Google earth. I can see my house clearly, and follow my trip own to Cape Patterson. I have put a Christmas letter on Google docs, but have no files for Google spreadsheets except boring financial files!

Facebook and Myspace

I have a Facebook account and find it quite fun in sending funny messages and wasting time! It has reconnected me to people with whom I had lost contact, so that is a bonus. I must admit that I prefer email though as it is more direct and has fewer distractions. But I like the pets bit and fluff friends, my garden and my aquarium!!
PS Now I hope I can get a reward!!

23 things week 5 tasks

I have set up a feed reader and subscribed to some subscriptions, but I find this area difficult to navigate. The set subscriptions seem too wide and if interested in librarianship or news, you need to narrow your interests down considerably or the number of hits is overwhelming. I have looked a few blogs and have not been interested enough to subscribe. I find many blogs too wordy and can't see the relevance of these sites for me.
